IFCW™ - East Grand Forks, Minnesota

AWARD WINNING PROJECT!!

FCA received the prestigious Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers "Seven Wonders of Engineering in Minnesota Award" for distinguished engineering achievement in 2000 - for the IFCW™ project in East Grand Forks, MN (in conjunction with SEH Engineering and Floan-Sanders Engineering). Additionally, the Invisible Flood Control Wall™ project in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, was recognized by U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) as one of its five major "success stories" in the 20th century.

The massive flood control project in East Grand Forks was born of the disastrous 1997 Red River spring flood. Floodwaters from the Red River reached the top of the handrails on the Demers Avenue Bridge leading into East Grand Forks. The flood was so devastating that only 8 homes in the entire city were unaffected.

While still reeling from the disaster, East Grand Forks made a firm decision to embrace their riverside environment rather than destroy it with traditional flood control measures. As a result, a wonderful "new" city center has risen from the catastrophic flood destruction. Powered by very strong-willed people who refused to accept any alternative except the IFCW™, this new attitude has drawn new commercial enterprise to the area protected by the IFCW™ for a total investment of $20 million to date, including a new $8 million Cabellas and a beautiful new Applebees. FCA and the technology of the IFCW™ has allowed the people of East Grand Forks to generate a true rebirth on their riverfront while remaining absolutely confident that when the waters of the Red River rise again, thier investment will remain bone dry.
